When
Susan Green was 6 months old, her Daddy had her sitting
in the saddle on a horse. By the time she was old enough
to sit alone, she rode the family plow mule and held on
by the hames. When she was just 5 years old she had her
first pony, but the rascal was so mean that she sweet talked
her Dad out of his saddle horse, Old Prince, for rides
around the family farm. In the small southern town of Cave
Spring, Georgia, long before NO TRESSPASSING signs were
so popular, you could find Susan and Old Prince on just
about any path, road, or trail in and around the community.
Susan’s genuine love for horses, mules, and all things
equine, first brought her and Lamar together at a local
rodeo when she was 12 years old. At the time they exchanged
phone numbers, but lost contact with each other for some
25 years until faith and a horse show put them back together
for good. Susan and Lamar are living out their dream making “cowboy
tuff” western gear and riding the trails.
Lamar
Green got his first horse at age 5. Saturday mornings during
his youth were spent in front of the TV watching Roy Rogers,
The Long Ranger, and Silver King. The rest of his life he
spent acting out what he had seen. Many scratches and scrapes
later, Lamar has gained a world of experience raising, training,
and competing in various equine events on both horses and
mules. Lamar began his art of saddle and harness making at
the age of 16. His expertise in leather craftsmanship and
knowledge of the equine world is the background for the handcrafted
saddles and tack of Tumbleweeds Leather Company. Lamar’s
love and admiration for the old west has influenced his lifelong
dream of living and making a living doing what he loves most—building
Tumbleweeds Saddles and Fine Handmade Cowboy Gear.
Susan
and Lamar have decided to make the move back home to Georgia
after living for many years in New Mexico. They will continue
making classic New Mexico gear. |
